Whether your goal is to start saving for retirement, take the stairs, remember to eat your veggies or go back to finish your degree You Can Attain it! Goals can be set in any and every area of your life.
For example Family, Spiritual, Financial, Fitness, Career and Educational goals.
Every year our Real Estate team establishes goals for the next year. We use the above categories to plan but you may think of others. Having a plan of what I want to accomplish and how I am going to do it, really keeps me focused - which is exactly what I need to help me succeed. Every day, I encounter things that might derail some or all of my plans for the day. Some days I do get off track, but I try not to be too hard on myself and just pick up where I left off.
When you are setting your goals it is important to make sure they are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Sensitive. These are referred to as SMART goals.
Specific: What do you want to achieve? Who does my goal involve? What am I trying to accomplish here? When and why do I want to make this goal happen?
Measurable: If you want to pay off a debt that is say $1,400 in the next year. Break this down into monthly and weekly amounts that you would need to save.
Achievable: You don’t want easy-to-reach goals but you also don't want to get discouraged by goals that are more complex and require more resources to accomplish.
Relevant: Does the goal fit with the overall plan you have? If not, you may want to focus on a goal that helps you attain the big plan
Time-Sensitive: You need a finish line. This will allow you to break your goal down into daily activities. (How do you eat an elephant? One bite at time.)
If you haven't already, take some time and ask yourself what you would like to accomplish this year? To build some confidence you might try choosing a goal you could realistically accomplish in one months time.
Take this goal and break it down into daily activities. You may be surprised how much easier it is to follow when you write down you goal and your steps. I record mine on my computers calendar.
I have a few other tips that will help you with accomplishing your goals that I'll will be sharing in a future post.
